The son of Star Amazon Girl and Here Comes Trouble ABSR, this big boned boy stands proudly in accordance with his heritage. His father is Star Best Bet. Star Amazon Girl is the tallest llama at Windy Ridge Llama Ranch. This pairing sought to bring out the height, stature, and Suri fleece of the dam. All this was achieved with an extra bonus - his coloring! He has a brown barrel, and a gray neck! Such an unusual distribution of colors, and oh, we love that gray! AKA Amp, he is one big, beautiful boy!
Bruno WRLR is just about the friendliest llama at Windy Ridge Llama Ranch! He is so inquisitive! You open the gate into the pasture, and he will be the first to come and say hello! Bruno was the result of the pairing of our own Star Fortress (seen on this site) and Star Angeleena (also seen on this site). Bruno has the most unique coloring - he is a coppery brown with an intense gray face, topped off by silver tipped ears! He is just the cutest boy, but there is so much more to love aside from his personality and coloring! Bruno WRLR has inherited his elegant dam's phenotype: Star Angeleena is a perfect Suri llama. Tall, graceful, with coiled and long Suri tendrils with a super long, stretchy neck - all of her offspring to date have carried that fantastic body type - Bruno WRLR is a tall and stretchy Suri llama like his parents. I did not mention that his sire, our Star Fortress is a handsome Suri herd sire who bears the same unique Suri phenotype as Star Angeleena, so Bruno WRLR was the genetic winner of this breeding! Wer chose not to have Bruno shorn this summer because we have such a short time for his fleece to grow back before autumn, which often times in Montana arrives with snow! He has such soft, silky fine fiber, and abundant as it is, he won't be shorn until spring 2026. Many llama ranches have only a few male herd sires, and if Bruno stays, he will be very welcomed to do so! As breeders, there is an expression that "you can't keep them all". Since we have his sire and dam, and a lot of males, some need to be sent off to other pastures. He is old enough to join your herd! Please ask if you have any inquiries about Bruno WRLR!
Cyrus was born here on our ranch in 2020, the offspring of our own Lujo Has It All and Star Premium Property. He is the type of llama everyone wants - very correct conformation, soft fluffy fleece, and the sweetest face imaginable. He also follows us around like a puppy. Very tame and oh so calm. He has had the pasture pups to contend with since birth, and now they are all such friends that they are frequently spotted lying out in the pasture together. Cyrus's genetics are amazing! Cyrus has grown into a tall majestic llama! Wow! He has that regal look from his sire and the beautiful fleece from both parents. He entered the Windy Ridge Llama Ranch breeding program in 2022 - look for his outstanding genetics to be seen in our foundation females. **News flash!! Cyrus WRLR is now the proud poppa of an almost completely white daughter. He was bred last year to a llama from our foundation herd, then sold to a local couple here in Montana. As the new owner announced last night, “it’s a girl”! This makes Cyrus WRLR a proven herd sire, with the first of many cria to be birthed - congratulations Cyrus WRLR!
Our very own Star Angeleena has given us another fantastic cria - he is 100% gray! I have been trying to get the complete gray coverage in various pairings and last year, bred our Stone Crest's Maximus appy herd sire with Angeleena. He is an appy with a lot of gray, and it turned out to be the winning combination - finally, we (they) did it! This young boy is already strong and wow, is he fast! He has a very protective mom but she is having trouble keeping up with his antics of racing around the pastures with the other cria. He is conformationally perfect, with a straight back and has the regal stance of his mom, a phenotypical Suri with her long stretchy neck and long Suri tendrils. We will watch his fleece - will it be Suri or silky? For now, it is just super soft and a joy to play with him once we can distract his mom for a moment!
Here Comes Trouble ABSR is a powerful, large boned majestic llama. His sire is the well known and prolific Rastaputin, a great big, powerfully handsome llama. Rastaputin was bred to full Argentine Kornerstone Blue Ribbon ABSR and the outcome was the magnificent Here Comes Trouble ABSR. Although he came to Windy Ridge Llama Ranch when he was only 6 months old, he has grown to become the great big proven herd sire we hoped he would be! I have to brag about his famous sire, because his genetics fit so perfectly into the desired breeding program at WRLR. He was a 3rd generation offspring if Kantu P5 and Argentine Kobra - all of Rastaputin's ancestors were pure Argentine - his dam was Argentine Pampita, and she was the product of Argentine Don Zunca and Argentine Machi (this pairing was a famous breeding!). So, combining Rastaputin with Argentine lines including Argentine Kobra's Kornerstone and his sire, Argentine Kobra makes his lineage read like a "Who's Who" of famous Argentine llamas! So Here Comes Trouble ABSR is a whole lot more Argentine than just one half! Much of his Argentine genetics are seen - that composition of big bone structure, straight back, triangular head, and such deep, thick full body fleece! He is also very colorful - the big guy has a mostly while neck along with the front half of his body until he is shorn! Then you see that his back is actually a medium to dark silvery gray! His tail is huge, and it is multicolored, with black, gray, white and brown fleece! Here Comes Trouble ABSR, call name "Trouble", has sired many offspring here at Windy Ridge - he has given us two daughters and a son. Victoria WRLR has been sold to a family in Alaska, and the other daughter, Freya WRLR, has been kept here to be shown in the Glacier Llama Show in Kalispell, Montana in June 2024! Updates to come! We have also retained his one son, Trouble Spot WRLR, call name "Spot" who is the "up and coming" breeding pen of Junior Herd Sires. Both Freya WRLR and Trouble Spot WRLR have their own pages on our website. Offspring: Victoria WRLR Trouble Spot WRLR Freya WRLR
This much anticipated male has been a dream come true for Windy Ridge Llama Ranch! Star Fortress and CNS Mahogany were bred to produce an outstanding offspring, but we were joyfully blessed by the color of their little boy - silver and medium gray! We have sought to produce a llama of this color, and he is all that and more! He was born skillfully by his proven momma who birthed him unassisted, and she has cared well for him as he has grown and become so conformationally correct, just like both his parents! Needless to say, he will be staying at Windy Ridge Llama Ranch - Herve, it's time to ready another pasture! Update: Hi Ho Silver WRLR entered the show ring at Glacier Classic Championship Llama Show for the first time - and he has gotten a lot of attention from both the fans and judges - he place first in his class as a silky yearling - congratulations to Hi Ho Silver WRLR!!
We have been anxiously awaiting the birth of this full Argentine boy - his mother is Cerrado’s Argentine Esmeralda, and she had been bred before moving to Windy Ridge Llama Ranch. Her famous sire is Argentine De Troit and this baby’s due date was 7/5. Esmeralda was giving me cues all day on the 9th that s birth was soon, and I was watching very closely! I had to come into the house for dinner, and went back out right after. There he was! Already born, dry and nursing!! This was an amazing fast birth, and Esmeralda is just a first time mom! She’s doing a great job with him, and what a magnificent fleece he has!! He is incredibly soft, and has his mom’s gray face, mostly brown body but gray down his spine and his rear legs! Standing behind him, you’d think he was gray all over! It is another blessing to have a healthy unassisted birth here at WRLR!! For a llama with his bloodlines comes a distinctive name: KoCoChi Argentine Kobra (KO) Argentine Pecos (Co) Argentine Machi (Chi) There’s more but I ran out of syllables to add for a name!
Lujo Has It ABSR is an elegant and majestic herd sire who commands your attention! He is the sire of offspring both before and at our ranch. He is big boned with heavy wool fleece, capturing both intense gray and brown coloring in addition to his white neck. He is our rock star who everyone wants to see because of his commanding appearance. He produces gorgeous cria, and we have retained his son Cyrus WRLR, to remain here with us. As a stud, he is a little stand offish, but will eat grain from your hand. His primary job on the ranch is as a producer of future champions! Lujo certainly Has it! Lujo will be 19 years old this July of 2024, and his breeding days may come to a close. He has had an arthritic knee in his left front leg that we treat with wraps and ointments, particularly during the cold Montana winters. But I'm unsure if he is ready for the retirement pasture, because despite that knee, he will still run along a fence line for a glimpse of the ladies! We will decide during this year's breeding season about whether or not we can get at least one more breeding from him. His son Cyrus WRLR will keep his genetic bloodline going, but we may just try for one more! We will keep you posted! Offspring: Cyrus WRLR Anello Bianco WRLR
This is a chance to see greatness! This pure Argentine Llama is the son of the famous herd sire Argentine Don Zunca and the equally famous dam Argentine Laucha - this pairing produced MGF Argentine Don Quixote! What most llama enthusiasts know is the Argentine Laucha was a direct import to the US and there are no further ancestral lines to trace - she was one of the best! MGF Argentine Don Quixote, call name "DQ", epitomizes all that pure Argentine llama are known for - perfect conformation and his full body fleece is so soft it can be spun into a scarf or garment worn directly on your skin - heavenly! He has the triangular face and short snout that makes his face simply adorable! You can walk up to DQ and put your arm around his neck and give him a hug! Argentine llama are known for their heavy bone structure and their very calm and sweet demeanor. As breeders, this is the personality we strive for! DQ has already sired a handsome son here at Windy Ridge Llama Ranch! Just last summer, in 2023, as a result of his breeding with our own ZF Argentine Leandra, their perfect appaloosa son was born - he is featured on his own page, as is his Momma. His name is ZF Argentine Don Alejandro. This very prestigious family will remain here at Windy Ridge Llama Ranch, and next summer, in 2025, the young Don will be headed to the show ring! This magnificent boy had to fight his way into the world. His momma, Star Prime Pattern, began giving birth, and we heard the "Sergei alarm" - the special bark that says a cria is coming! There was a problem though - only his head emerged. This is a serious situation, and we were in a high wind situation with 50 mph gusts - we got her into the front pasture and into the shelter. Then it began to hail! This is May in Montana for sure! After 3 hours of trying to turn him in utero, we had our most wonderful veterinarian, Dr. Kaylee Senior, come to the rescue. She and her assistants worked swiftly to manage the complicated birth, and finally, after giving the momma some lidocaine (think epidural, ladies) she was able to reach the feet enough to hook obstetrical chains to them, and out came the most beautiful silver colored llama we have ever seen! Despite the wind and marble sized hail, by the grace of God, he was able to be born! Our veterinarian saved the baby and the momma. If Sergei hadn't alerted me, if we hadn't been home, it this had been during the night, and if our vet had not have come... well, we would be describing a very sad outcome. But momma and baby are doing great! Today, he was able to walk around the pasture and meet all the other moms and babies, and his sisters and grandmother! Her grandmother is Star Premium Property, call name Momma Llama (due herself again any day now). His sire has provided us with such a bounty of offspring, and in her pasture is Freya WRLR (offspring of Star Premium Property and Here Comes Trouble), Ilsa (Ilsa is Star's sister whose sire is Star Llama Company's Firewalker) who has a cria of her own running around, Brienne of Montana WRLR (sire: Stone Crest Maximus). In a junior herd sire pasture, there is brother, Trouble Spot WRLR, and the big fella himself, the prolific herd sire Here Comes Trouble ABSR, is in a separate pasture with two other studs. Everyone has their own page on our site. Some of the offspring of Momma Llama as well as some of Here Comes Trouble's babies have been sold, but we just love this line of genetics and keep adding new genetic variables to make things very interesting here at WRLR! Lots of pictures - oh, and yes! He is named after our wonderful veterinarian! (and his famous poppa!)
This proven herd sire has an amazing rose gray fleece - he is a silky, and I put the first picture in from when he was younger since it better captured the lighting - I have tried but my pictures don't do him justice! He has perfect conformation, and the Star genetics of both Kantu P5 and Peruvian Keno PC - this is a rare bloodline, thanks to Star Llama for being one of the first to import llama and preserving these amazing genetics. His rose gray coloring is in itself rare, in addition to being just beautiful fleece. He is the color carrier for sure! His offspring are featured on other pages on this site. Tall and stretchy Suri with classic white luxurious body tendrils - his head and tail are jet black. The perfect genetic combination of Argentine and Chilean ancestors has produced this gorgeous llama. He is a front pasture stud - loves to strike an elegant pose while still being friendly enough to eat from your hand. He has extraordinary genetics which has produced his flawless conformation - straight back, long neck and absolutely beautiful Suri tendrils - he shimmers in the sunlight. He was first used in our breeding program 2021 with Star Premium Property and a beautiful girl, Susie WRLR, was born on 7/25/2022. Susie WRLR is now living on a nearby ranch in Montana working as an elegant guard to a herd of alpaca! Of his two sons, Little Big Man WRLR is now living in Alaska, and Bruno WRLR, well, we've decided to keep him right here with us! Stone Crest's Maximus is the long sought after male appy that we have been looking for. His famous sire is Mystery's Timone, a National Champion. His dam is from RTC Llama Ranch, Francine, out of Randy Cipriano's program of superior genetic breeding. (Pictures courtesy of Jody Laird-Peter) He has gotten very tall, and he and his pasture mate Cyrus, are breathtakingly handsome llamas! As you would expect, Max will be taken to the show ring this year, to wow everyone with his striking appearance - but also with his sweet temperament. Truly the llama that everyone loves to fawn over - he's like the llama wearing his striped pajamas! Be listening to the show circuit's ratings of this spectacular llama, Maximus! On a beautiful, warm Saturday morning at around 10 am, we heard Sergei, one of the pasture Ovcharka GLDs, begin to bark and announce that something was happening in the pasture. Herve was right there, feeding and watering the llamas, and saw that Wildfire was starting to give birth. He came in and told me, and I hurried out. Wildfire was a maiden, and first births can be very scary as the mom is doing this for the very first time! But you would have thought she was a pro, because this was the most textbook birth we have had in a while at WRLR. Already the two front legs and head were exposed, and it took 17 minutes total for her to give birth to her very first son - a jet black boy with fleece as magnificent as his mom's! Wildfire had been bred to our own Star Best Bet, and we wondered if his rose gray fleece or her jet black fleece would be predominant. Now we know!! Congratulations to Wildfire and Best Bet! Wildfire has been a wonderful, caring mom with lots of milk - her little boy got up within an hour of his birth and was quickly being introduced to all the other llamas in the pasture - I love watching them nuzzle the new baby!
This unusual spotted cria is the offspring of his famous sire, Here Comes Trouble ABSR, and our own Star Ilsa. His mom is one of the largest llama we have, born at Windy Ridge Llama Ranch. Her genetics date back to the original imports to the USA. She was paired especially with Here Comes Trouble ABSR, due to her size and conformation, to pick up the massiveness and genetics of the sire, an Argentine, son of Rastaputin. We have limited the breedings to this special herd sire, preserving the value of his genetics. He has just returned from his very first llama show, and has won 1st place in the medium wool yearling class at the Glacier Classic International - congratulations Trouble Spot WRLR!! .
What do you get when you breed MGF Argentine Don Quixote (call name DQ) with the beautiful Argentine Leandra? ZF Argentine Don Alejandro! This stunning appaloosa was born late summer of 2023, just several months after both his sire and his mom came to permanently reside at WRLR. Leandra had already been bred to DQ and we just had to be careful with her for the last "trimester". She was treated like a queen, and we were ever so excited that she produced not only an appaloosa, with exactly her coloring, but also, that she had produced a son! We were, and still are, feeling very blessed as a result! You may have heard that in llama births, females are more desired, because they can reproduce themselves many times over throughout their breeding years. And although this is true, there are times you desperately want a son! It has to do with this little boy's genetics - he is a full Argentine llama. He will provide the full body fleece, that can literally be used in its entirety, when the time comes to shear him. Did you know this about Argentines? This is unlike other llamas. Non-Argentines' fleece is usable from their "barrel" and sometimes upper rear thigh fleece. The rest of the fleece that is shorn is not able to be used for garments (although birds like it for nest building and other delightful uses!) This is a big difference with an Argentine, where every single thread of fleece produces usable fiber! In Argentina, this is one of the reasons these llamas are so desirable. You can make many garments from such a huge amount of fleece! The most important reason we wanted a boy is to carry on the genetic lines of his famous and prolific sire, as well as the equally impressive genetic lines of his mother. It is hoped, God willing, that this boy will one day take over for his father in the WRLR breeding program. So, he has some mighty big shoes to fill! (Wait, llamas don't wear shoes - you know what I mean!) We are delighted with the development of Don Alejandro - he has such a perfect Argentine phenotype: a shorter snout than most other types of llamas, thick and very colorful fleece coverage, and the development of that triangular appearing face we associate with the Argentines. As he grows, his bone structure will be thick and heavy - such a privilege to watch him as he matures! When he was born, Herve looked at me and said, matter of factly, "I guess I'll need to make another pasture." You see, some llama owners put all their males together into one pasture and let them "work it out" with regard to their incessant fights for dominance, as in, who is the alpha male today. We have always separated our big brute herd sires from the "juves" ( >1, <3 years) for their safety. But little boys just over 6 months, or at least by 1 year old, are taken out of the females' pasture and need to be put somewhere else, not in with any of the big boys! This is why, usually, males are sold, but Don Alejandro will be staying here with us! We should start a new page called "Herve's ongoing WRLR projects"!
